Avalanche (AVAX), formerly Ava/AVA, is the first layer heterogeneous network of the blockchain, used as a platform for decentralized applications and custom blockchain networks. Avalanche's main network is a special subnet that runs three blockchains:
Platform Chain (P-Chain): responsible for staking tokens, coordinating network validators, tracking active subnets and creating custom subnets.
Contract Chain (C-Chain): quickly execute the Ethereum virtual machine, compatible with solidity and Ethereum power builders.
X-Chain:process peer-to-peer asset creation and asset trading.
The subnet separates the execution environment from the blockchain, improving the scalability and operational efficiency of the blockchain. At the same time, the Avalanche consensus achieves 4500 TPS by vertically scaling the Avalanche network with a leaderless BFT protocol, also known as the snow family protocol.
Avalanche was co-founded by Emin Gün Sirer, a professor at Cornell University and co-founder of IC3, Kevin Sekniqi, a computer scientist, and Ted Yin, first author of the Facebook Libra protocol HotStuff consensus.
